The Happiest Toddler on the Block

...Or my drive with Jayden through Washington and Oregon.

We left this morning for the first part of the drive to my sister Kat's wedding in the San Francisco Bay area. We did pretty good this morning-leaving the house by nine. As we started our drive down I-5, I realized that I'd be driving past my Grandma's place, so I decided to drop by and see if she wanted me to bring anything down to my family. She did, and we chatted for a while as Jayden fell asleep in my lap(what a rare occurance!).

I got back on the road again-leaving at around 11:30. We made a stop for lunch at a rest area, and Jayden ran around for a while. We made a few other pit stops along the way, so the ETA of 7 hours 51 min turned more into 10 hours. So as per Jayden's tradition, the last hour of the trip he turned into meltdown mode. I ejected the soundtrack for Bride and Predjudice(I was disappointed that my favorite song from the movie "No Life Without Wife" had a skip in it, by the way). I decided to put in the book on CD "The Happiest Toddler on the Block." Interestingly enough, Jayden stopped his tantrum and was quiet the rest of the way as we listened. Maybe he was trying to analyze his behavior, too.

We finally arrived in Klamath Falls at 7. It would have been later if I went the speed limit(shhh...). It was a pretty drive and the resort we are staying at(Thanks, Aunt Patty!) is very lovely. Jayden and I enjoyed some time in the pool before I put him to bed.

I miss my other two kids and my husband. There are a lot of things I take for granted when he is around. Unloading all of our stuff from the car and trying to herd a two year old at the same time is kind of tough. Having to drive the whole way and not being able to fully enjoy the scenery... Being able to go to the bathroom by myself while not having to worry about Jayden trying to crawl on the dirty floor under the stall door at a rest stop...

Well, tomorrow we'll try to make it in time for the rehearsal dinner tomorrow evening. Fortunately, there's not as long of a trip left, and the dinner is informal.

For now, I think I will go enjoy my bathtub. Hopefully I won't fall asleep in it. Goodnight!
